A possible collaboration among Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and writer-director Lokesh Kanagaraj has done the rounds on the Kollywood block since 2019. In 2022, Kamal Haasan before the release of Lokesh Kanagaraj directed Vikram even stated, "After the three of us agree, we will announce it to you. I am always ready (though)".

Lokesh Kanagaraj has since made Coolie with Rajinikanth, and amidst Coolie's blockbuster run at the box-office, reports of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan reuniting on Lokesh Kanagaraj's next has surfaced again. And as always, it is being said that Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International will be producing this project.

Additionally, a latest update also suggests that Lokesh Kanagaraj met both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan before the release of Coolie, and narrated a dual-hero subject. If this project materializes, the movie will mark Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan's on-screen reunion after 46 years. 

Coolie had Kamal Haasan's actress-daughter Shruthi Haasan playing Rajinikanth's on-screen daughter in her maiden team-up with the Superstar. Coolie released on August 14, 2025 marking the golden jubilee celebration of Rajinikanth's debut in cinema, and interestingly, Kamal Haasan chose a still from his last movie with Rajinikanth- Ninaithale Inikkum (1979), to send out his best wishes.

Lokesh Kanagaraj has also been in the news for directing Kaithi 2-a sequel to the Karthi starrer that kicked off the director's Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) movies, and making his Bollywood debut with an Aamir Khan film.
