Writer, director Venky Atluri is currently busy making a Tamil-Telugu bilingual with Kollywood star actor Suriya. Venky Atluri's last release before Suriya 46 (tentative title) was the Dulquer Salmaan starrer Lucky Bhaskar (2024) which is currently available to stream on the Netflix OTT platform.
A period crime drama, Lucky Bhaskar is set in the 1980s Bombay (now Mumbai), and revolves around a mild-mannered banker (Dulquer) burdened by debt and family responsibilities. How this protagonist Bhaskar Kumar stumbles into the underworld of smuggling and stock fraud—only to rise through the banking ranks, confront his own corruption, and orchestrate a daring exposé against the financial elite, is what the movie is about.
In a recent interview with Big TV Plus, Venky Atluri has confirmed that Lucky Baskhar will have a sequel. The announcement of Lucky Bhaskar 2 doesn't come as a surprise, given that the first film went on to do a business of Rs. 107 Cr. worldwide.
While Venky Atluri had initially wanted to cast Naga Chaitanya for the lead role, Dulquer Salmaan's interest in the project and readily available dates landed him the lead job. Both Venky Atluri and Malayalam star actor Dulquer have spoken about the same and said,
“Venky Atluri’s narration instantly hooked me, and I knew I wanted to be part of it. The timing worked out perfectly since I had open dates, team Lucky Bhaskar quickly prepared everything within just two weeks. I’m very grateful to the producers for offering me such a memorable character and script." - Dulquer Salmaan
"have always narrated first scenes for Naga Chaitanya in each of my five films. Even though there were always good intentions, things didn't work out," - Venky Atluri
Lucky Bhaskar is a joint production venture of Sithara Entertainments, Fortune Four Cinemas, and Srikara Studios.
