Hi Nanna (2023) is a Nani starrer Telugu language romantic drama which released in theaters on December 7, 2023, and has been available to stream on the Netflix OTT platform since January 2024. Hi Nanna with story, co-screenplay, and direction by Shouryuv, is a production venture of Vyra Entertainments. 

Almost a year since its OTT premiere, Hi Nanna has landed in a copyright controversy. Bheemasena Nalamaharaja (2020), written and directed by Karthik Saragur is a Kannada language drama film that has been streaming on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform since October 29, 2020.

Pushkara Mallikarjunaiah, the producer of Bheemasena Nalamaharaja has now taken a dig at Nani for basing Hi Nanna on the Kannada film, without obtaining remake rights. “Without taking #RemakeRights, Hi Nanna has been made by copying our original movie #BheemaSenaNalaMaharaja. What a cheap thing to do, @nameisnani”, Pushkara Mallikarjunaiah wrote taking to Instagram stories. 

Bheemasena Nalamaharaja is a joint production venture of Paramvah Studios, Pushkar Films, and Lost and Found Films, and was a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video. The Kannada film follows the story of Latthesha (Aravinnd Iyer), a passionate cook who meets Sarah (Priyanka Thimmesh) at the resort he stays in, and ends up telling her his love story with the rebellious Iyengar girl Vedavalli. The story ends up with Sarah and Vedavalli being the same person.

Hi Nanna on the other hand follows the story of a single dad Viraj (Nani), who incidentally meets Yashna (Mrunal Thakur), and ends up telling her his love story with one Varsha. The story ends up with Yashna and Varsha being the same person.
