Pushpa 2 Vs Interstellar: IMAX release leaves India grumbling!

Christopher Nolan directed Interstellar (2014) is one of the English filmmaker's more popular works, and the movie like most Nolan productions has been filmed using the extremely rare IMAX cameras. IMAX cameras cannot be bought, only rented. Christopher Nolan is one of the very few filmmakers in the world who is trusted by the IMAX company in handling the said machine.

In India, there are only a total of 28 IMAX theater screens. Movies do not get made using IMAX cameras in the country, however they are digitally converted for IMAX release in the event of the budget permitting it. Telugu star actor Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule is one such movie, and it releases on December 5, 2024.

Film enthusiasts in India are now bummed that Pushpa 2's IMAX release has eaten into the re-release of Interstellar on Indian IMAX screens. The 10 year old Interstellar has previously released twice on IMAX in India, but everytime it does, a new generation of Nolan, film, and science enthusiasts turn up to watch it without fail. And with the Indian IMAX screens having grown from 3 in 2012 to 28 only in 2023, the experience of watching a Nolan movie on IMAX is extremely on demand in the country.

The Interstellar audience were spotted grumbling on X over loosing out the IMAX screens to Pushpa 2. Some remnants of their thoughts, some of which even got the Allu Arjun and Pushpa 2 fans defend their side:
