Vidaamuyarchi: Devotees take Ajith & film to Sabarimala Temple

PUBLISHED DATE | 21/Nov/2024

Lyca Productions backed Vidaamuyarchi is an upcoming Ajith starrer directed by Magizh Thirumeni. Touted to be a remake of Kurt Russel's Hollywood thriller Breakdown (1997), Vidaamuyarchi also stars Trisha, Arjun Sarja, Aarav, Regina Cassandra, among others. Vidaamuyarchi has been in production since October, 2023 when shooting of the movie began.

Except for a few character posters, and BTS footages, there have been no updates on Vidaamuyarchi for a year plus now. Notably, Good Bad Ugly, a film Ajith Kumar started after Vidaamuyarchi is progressing at a brisk pace and is even looking to release on January 10, 2025 for Pongal.

This has made Ajith fans desperate for Vidaamuyarchi updates. A reflection of the same was recently noted at the Sabarimala Temple, where devotees carried a banner demanding Lyca Productions for a Vidaa Muyarchi teaser. The Sabarimala devotees displaying the banner were filmed by a youngster who lead the chant, "Kadavuley, Ajithey, Uyirey, Ajithey, Rathamey, Ajithey, Ajithey, Kadavuley" (translates to Dear God Ajith, Life Ajith, Blood Ajith, Ajith God).

Sabarimala located in the Indian state of Kerala is home to Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, which is thronged by staunch devotees during this time of the year. Tamil Nadu contributes a significant chunk of these devotees, who practice tee-totalism during this month, and travel by foot to get a glimpse of the Lord Ayyapan, the Hindu God residing in the temple. A Tamil Instagram handle, which regularly posts Sabarimala updates, condemned this action by Ajith fans and wrote,

"All these people come to the temple without knowing why..!!

Only if the Kerala police arrest the Samis who are advertising with these kinds of banners and put them in jail for a week, they will turn around. If not, you have to give the toilets there for a week as a bathroom cleaning job..!!

It says that people of other religions should not advertise in Hindu temples, this is an advertisement and this is also a mistake...!!

There is no place to put a banner in Tamil Nadu, they go to Sabarimala and stand holding the banner.

This is not the place to say I'm a fan of this person or that person. For those who go there, the only fan for everyone is (Lord) Ayyappan...!!" (sic)
