PUBLISHED DATE | 09/Oct/2024

Vettaiyan starring Rajinikanth in the lead is all set for a worldwide release in a few hours (October 10, 2024). The movie written and directed by TJ Gnanavel marks the filmmaker's maiden collaboration with Rajinikanth. Vettaiyan is Rajinikanth 170th film and also marks the Superstar's reunion with Amitabh Bachchan after 33 years.

Bachchan, who is debuting in Tamil with Vettaiyan plays a high court judge in this movie. The Vettaiyan trailer cuts reveal that Amitabh Bachchan plays a character named Sathyadev Bramhadutt Pandey, and he was seen addressing a convention of National Police force, and course correcting them on the definition of a 'hero'.

Sathyadev's policy in Vettaiyan is indicative of a steady justice, despite the degree of the crime. Amitabh Bachchan who was shown to question encounter specialists being hailed as heroes, meets the best of them in Vettaiyan. Rajinikanth who is super cop of sorts in his Superintendent of Police position, has no qualms about punishing the unjust.

Rajini is even seen claiming boldly to Amitabh Bachchan's judge character that he isn't afraid of transfers of power or position. As long as his titular character is a cop, Vettaiyan would hunt for the criminal to ensure justice. Worth noting here that writer, director TJ Gnanavel has always taken a stance against extrajudicial punishments, and has projected them to be a form of police brutality.

A Lyca Productions venture, Vettaiyan is mounted on a budget of Rs. 300 Cr. and has a starry ensemble to support Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan. The movie also releases in Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada as Vettaiyan: The Hunter
