Drishyam becomes first Indian film to get a Hollywood, Korean, Indonesian & Spanish remake!

Aashirvad Cinemas, the Malayalam cine banner that produced PAN-India famous Drishyam movies has sold its international remake rights to Panorama Studios, the same banner that produced the Hindi remakes of the Mohanlal starrer. At the Cannes Film Festival 2023, producers Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak had unveiled the Korean adaptation of Drishyam

 

Now the movie, written and directed by Jeethu Jospeh is all set to become the first Indian film to get a Hollywood remake. Kumar Mangat Pathak, Chairman and Managing Director of Panorama studios said in an official statement,

 

“Drishyam's clever narrative has a universal appeal and we are keen to celebrate this story with audiences worldwide. We are very happy to collaborate with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to create this story in English for Hollywood. After Korea and Hollywood, our mission is to produce Drishyam in 10 countries in the next three to five years”.


Besides the development of Drishyam remake in the US and Korea, a deal is also in progress for a Spanish-remake of the Jeethu Joseph- Mohanlal thriller. Ever since Drishyam Part 1 released in 2013, it has enjoyed successful remakes in multiple Indian and International languages like Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Sinhala, and Chinese.

 

The announcement of Drishyam Part 1's remake in Indonesian in September 2021, and its Korean remake in May 2023, made Drishyam the first Indian film to be remade in Indonesian and Korean. Now Drishyam is also the first Indian movie to get a Hollywood remake. 

 

Drishyam was also the first Indian movie to be remade in Mainland China as Sheep Without a Shepherd (2019). Drishyam Part 2 that released in February, 2021 and has since been remade in Kannada, Telugu and Hindi.
