Soorarai Pottru was produced by Suriya and wife Jyotika's 2D Entertainment, and they have returned to bankroll Sarfira alongside Abundantia (Vikram Malhotra) and Cape Good Films (Arun Bhatia). Suriya will be making a special appearance in his film's Hindi remake, and the Kollywood actor will be seen as a Tamil plane passenger who boards one of the first low cost aviation flights. Suriya's cameo character hands out his business card to lead star Akshay Kumar in Sarfira's climax.
Sarphira is based on Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath's autobiographical book Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey. The Hindi version also stars actress Radhika Madan, and Paresh Rawal reprising his role from the original. Sarphira has music by GV Prakash, is written by Sudha Kondara and Shalini Ushadevi, and has dialogues by Pooja Tolani.
