Biographical sports drama Maidaan produced by Boney Kapoor and starring Ajay Devgn in the lead, had made a lot of noise down South when actress Keerthy Suresh was roped into play the female lead in the film. Fresh off winning the National Best actress award for Mahanati (2018), Keerthy Suresh had signed to make her Bollywood debut with Maidaan.

 The actress had reduced a lot of weight in preparation for her character, but Maidaan which commenced shooting in August, 2019 faced a lot of filming delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By January, 2020 Keerthy Suresh had opted out of the project 'for looking too young' to play Ajay Devgn's wife, and actress Priya Mani was roped in the movie. 

This Maidaan which is based on former Indian National football team coach - Syed Abdul Rahim, is now set for an Eid release in April, 2024. The official announcement was made by Boney Kapoor on the X platform.

Syed Abdul Rahim who also was the manager of the Indian football team is best remembered for taking India to the semi-finals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Syed Abdul Rahim is also seen as the figure that revolutionized the sport in our country. Maidaan jointly produced by Zee Studios and Boney Kapoor's Bayview Projects is set to release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages.
