UV Creations and Studio Green produced Kanguva is an upcoming Suriya starrer that recently had a first glimpse release. Suriya could be seen in medieval look in it, and the set up itself was showcased as a war-clad period world. Added to this, Kanguva's early posters had a 3rd century Tamil script called Vattezhuthu, hinting a significance of the same in the movie.

Studio Green producer Gnanavel Raja had also stated in the media, "We're doing this film set in the 18th century from a completely imaginary perspective. It may include around 20 percent of historical references". Kanguva writer, director Siva had also previously said, "Kanguva refers to a man with the power of fire..The film is set 1500 years ago, and uses elements from ancient Tamil culture as well as other cultures from all over India. Kanguva is a fictional story set in an imaginary world with strong historical references and facts.”

All this had raised expectations of Kanguva being a mostly periodic film, since the makers had already revealed that contemporary timeline is also showcased in the movie, and that the period portions will appear in flashbacks. However now it has been revealed that the period portions where Suriya appears in medieval look, is only a minor portion of Kanguva, and that majority of the movie is set in Goa in modern times.

This has raised concerns among the Suriya fan-base and otherwise, considering how Kanguva has been marketed as Suriya's costliest film yet, and is scheduled to release in multiple languages PAN-India.
