Thalapathy 68 (tentative title) is actor Vijay's highly buzzed next project after Leo (2023). Director Venkat Prabhu who has given super-hits like Maanaadu (2021), Mankatha (starring Ajith) and Chennai 600028 (2007) is touted to be helming this movie. Venkat Prabhu had apparently narrated a story to Vijay a month before his last release Custody, and had since been working on a bound script. Around Custody's release (May 12, 2023), Vijay is said to have okayed the script and now Thalapathy 68 is gearing up for an official announcement.

Thalapathy 68 is said to be a production venture of AGS Entertainment, a banner that has previously produced Vijay starrer Bigil (2019). AGS is planning on making the Thalapathy 68 announcement this weekend or next week. 

AGS Entertainment is also in the news for offering Vijay a whopping Rs. 200 Cr., making him the second Indian actor to take home such a huge salary from a single film. Dangal (2016) made Bollywood star Aamir Khan the highest paid Indian actor ever with his paycheck estimated between Rs. 265 Cr. - Rs. 300 Cr; This was thanks to a lucrative deal Khan signed with UTV-Disney and Dangal's worldwide box-office rampage that flowed into 2017.
