The title of actor Suirya's 42nd film was revealed to be the uniquely sounding Kanguva recently, and film's director Siva has now opened upon on the meaning behind the title and what his upcoming movie is all about. Kanguva so far was touted to be a fantasy genre film but director Siva has refuted this and told Cinema Express, “The mythology-like setting might lead someone to believe this is a fantasy. However, Kanguva is not a fantasy film and Suriya sir’s character does not have any superpowers."

Director Siva has also revealed that Kanguva is set 1500 years ago, is titled after ancient Tamil culture of worshipping fire and takes inspiration from a 3rd century Tamil script. The director has stated in the media,

"Kanguvan is a name in the (Tamil) language..the script that we have used above the title in the film’s poster is ancient Tamil called Vattezhuthu, which was in vogue after the 3rd century...Kangu means fire. So, Kanguva refers to a man with the power of fire..The film is set 1500 years ago, and uses elements from ancient Tamil culture as well as other cultures from all over India. Kanguva is a fictional story set in an imaginary world with strong historical references and facts.”

Produced by Studio Green, Kanguva is scheduled to release in 10 languages and in 3D. The movie has Disha Patani playing female lead and has Devi Sri Prasad for music. 50% of Kanguva's shooting is complete and the team has also shot a grand promo video.
