Director Gautham Menon and actor Kamal Haasan recently were spotted together at the audio, trailer launch event of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, produced by Vels Film International. Before the event, it was expected that an announcement on Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2 will be made, since the movie is likely to unite Gautham Menon, Kamal Haasan and Vels Film International. However only hints of the anticipated sequel were given at the event.

As reported previously Gautham Menon recently revealed that he plans on beginning Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2 by mid-2023 and that scripting is currently in process. Kamal Haasan echoed the same when he said,  "I gave my nod to the director 2 years ago, I'm still waiting for the script."

Gautham Menon further revealed that writer Jeya Mohan who has also penned Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, is currently writing Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu 2. Jeya Mohan is the second technical crew name to be associated with the sequel, after Harris Jayaraj for music.
