The shooting of Mani Ratnam's two-part magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan is currently taking place in Pollachi and actor Karthi is said to be a part of this schedule. A song sequence in being canned in the Coimbatore district town and the team will be moving to Mysore next for palace backdrop sequences. 

Ponniyin Selvan is a historical drama adapted from Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel of the same name, and has over 50 main roles portrayed by star and character actors. Jayam Ravi and Chiyaan Vikram have completed their respective portions for both parts of the movie.

Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions are co-producing this Rs. 500 Cr. project, the first part of which is scheduled to release in 2022. The technical crew of this film includes AR Rahman for music, Ravi Varman for cinematography and Sreekar Prasad for edits.
