A week after we reported that Karnan makers were sent legal notices over the use of the word 'Pandrathi' in one of their songs, director Mari Selvaraj has now updated that they have changed the title and the lyric to Manjanathi Puranam.  The director has also pointed out that the images carrying the change have been updated on YouTube and all across internet and will take one or two days to reflect.

The song composed by Santhosh Narayanan and sung by Deva was released on March 2, 2021 and soon-after a welfare petition was filed at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court , claiming that the song demeans the 'pandaram' community in Tamil Nadu.

Mari Selvaraj in response has now replaced the word and has said, "the impact some names have on our social interaction psychology is unrecognizable and irreversible. Based on that, we have decided to call Pandarathi as Manjanati to end the debate, regret and demand for the song Pandarati Puranam."
