Director-producer Karan Johar has shelved his ambitious multi-starrer project Takht, which was scheduled to release for Christmas, 2021. The period drama starring Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Jhanvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Vicky Kaushal among others was planned at a whopping budget of Rs. 250-300 Cr. and Karan was supposed to direct it.

Reportedly the decision to film the project came due to the political and fan climate in regards to Islam and nepotism. Takht is based around Mughal history and has a host of star-kids in its cast list, making investors re-think their decision.
