Recently it was confirmed that Rajinikanth starrer Annaatthe which had plans of resuming shooting from this month has delayed its plans once again, owing to the rise in COVID-19 deaths/cases is the country. While the Coronavirus pandemic is attributed as a main reason, it is being said that Sun Pictures producer Kalanithi Maran called off the shooting last minute keeping Rajinikanth's saftey in mind.

Reportedly, only 40 days of shooting is left for the movie which includes the canning of some action sequences and the climax. However the reason to delay the current schedule comes after Maran decided 'not to expose Rajini to a crew of 200+ people', especially since the late S.P. Balasubrahmanyan, who has crooned a song in the film became terminal only after starting off with a mild exposure.

A Siva directorial, Annaatthe is said to be an emotional drama with Imman for music and the portions which have been shot have already gone under the edit table. The film was first officially announced to release for Pongal, 2021 but given the delay in shooting those plans might change as well.
