Kpop band BTS creates Asian music history by topping indomitable Airplay chart!

Seven-member South Korean musical act BTS which is also arguably one of the biggest boy bands in the world right now is in the news for creating Billboard history by securing a No. 1 spot in their Hot 100 chart. The feat is being much hyped for two reasons

  • The Billboard Hot 100 which blends all-genre U.S. streaming, radio airplay and sales data is quite indomitable and the only other music act from the whole of Asia to top it was the Japan-born Kyu Sakamoto.

  • Kyu Sakamoto secured the No. 1 place in June, 1963 which makes BTS the first Asian musical act in 57 years to achieve this place.

In short the occurrence is much more rare than Indian musicians winning Grammys and is a moment of pride for not only South Korea but all of the 48 countries in Asia. South Korean President Moon Jae-in acknowledged BTS achievement from his personal Twitter account terming it as a "new chapter in K-pop history".

He also said that the song Dynamite, BTS's first all-English number which helped them in creating this history is a ray of hope for Koreans who like the rest of the world have been facing the crisis of COVID-19 head-on.

BTS managed by Bang Shihyuk's Big Hit Entertainment have been around since 2013 and they consist of band members namely RM (Kim Namjoon), Jin (Kim Seokjin), Suga (Min Yoongi), J-hope (Jung Hoesoek), (Park) Jimin, V (Kim Taehyung) and (Jeon) Jungkook.
