Release Issues - Will Thalaivaa lead on Aug 9?

Vijay movies are known for facing last minute release issues from unknown angles. Thalaivaa appears to be going through a similar struggle as all theatres have put all the bookings on hold indefinitely. This is the second time this year after Vishwaroopam, such release issues have cropped up after the prints have been dispatched to overseas.

There are multiple reasons quoted for the issues. One of them is threatening letters reportedly received by all major theatres and multiplexes from an unknown group called Oppressed Students Revolutionary Union. Another source quotes that the exhibitors received threats from political outfits. Some even claim possible tax exemption issues due to not getting the TN entertainment committee's approval on time. No official press release or announcements have been made so far on this issue.

Resolution expected on Thursday

The exhibitors and key members associated with the movie convened for a meeting on Wednesday evening. No resolution has been reached and the decision is expected to be taken during the second round of meeting scheduled tomorrow (Thursday).  

Vijay's Press Release

Vijay in a press release has clarified that the film has nothing to do with politics. “It’s a complete family entertainer with all the necessary ingredients including romance, action and comedy. This is not a political film as some miscreants claim,”. Vijay has further clarified that the film is not against any political group or individuals and has requested the public not to fall for these rumours.

Vijay is one of the few actors who goes out of his way to ensure his movies always released on the promised date. We will expect the same this time around.
