Tamil director says Parasite, Bong Joon-Ho's history-making Korean Film gives him hope!

South Koream film Parasite and its director Bong Joon-Ho (pictured above) were news makers on the international film circuit staring December, 2019. This was due to Joon-Ho's  Palme d'Or win [a first for South Korea] at Cannes Film Festival last year, followed by a worldwide reception for his black comedy of a movie. 

 

Parasite which comes with a commentary on the class-divide gained even more recognition in 2020, starting with a Golden Globe award in 'Best Foreign Language Film' [another first for South Korea] and a smashing 6 nominations in the 92nd Academy Awards aka the Oscars, 2020 list. Looking at how a South Korean film that is making history worldwide, Tamil director Vignesh Sivan tweeted that it was "inspiring to see" that "any film from any part of the world" can be celebrated as a "masterpiece" with quality content.

 


He also wanted Tamil directors like Vetrimaaran to take hope from the 6 main nominations of Parasite, some of whom are in the main category instead of just foreign language films.
