Ajith & AIADMK - The Never Ending Political Saga!

PUBLISHED DATE | 20/Nov/2019

AIADMK, one of the two strong political parties of Tamil Nadu has a new found interest and it is none other than Tamil actor Ajith Kumar. To the unknown, Ajith is one of those celebrities who shies away from the social spotlight and is only photographed at two occasions - when he steps out to vote and when he is training for a role in the movies.

Despite Ajith's clear stand on politics (which may not be in alignment with director Suseenthiran's wishes) and his statement to his fans to not get fooled by politicians who unauthorized-ly use his name, it seems like some of the AIADMK ministers are attempting at turning his fan-base to votes in recent times.

First Tamil Nadu Minister of Dairy and AIADMK Minister KR Rajendra Balaji caused a stir by openly stating, "Why should only Kamal, Rajini and Vijay come to politics? Why not Ajith? We will rope in stars who are prudent to our party and interested to serve people". Then fisheries minister and AIADMK's spokesperson D. Jayakumar sent Ajith fans into a frenzy by praising Ajith for his clear political stand.

Jayakumar praised the actor for devotion to his work and lauded his grit by recalling the infamous incident where Ajith complained about the 'pressure' some cine-political entities were putting on actors, directly to M. Karunanidhi. [DMK was the ruling party at that time and Ajith bravely rued politics creeping into cinema in front of the then CM and almost the entire Kollywood].

It must be noted here that this isn't the first time AIADMK leaders have tried banking on Ajith's fan-base. Back in 2016, there were bizarre rumours (believed to have stemmed from AIADMK's inner circle) about Ajith being anointed as the successor to Jayalalithaa when she was critical in the ICU.

Post her death, AIADMK's "sources" were confirming Ajith's meeting with Sasikala, despite vigorous denials from the actor's side. Sasikala was then blamed by Ajith fans to have spread this false information to gain acceptance from the public before taking over as the General Secretary of the party.
