Rani Mukerji is all set to return as Shivani Shivaji Roy with her cop drama Mardaani 2. The film is a sequel to 2014 cop thriller with same name. Yash Raj Films who is bankrolling the project has officially announced the release date of the film on their social media handle. It is set to hit the theatres on December 13, 2019. 

While the crime-thriller Mardaani was directed by Pradeep Sarkar, Mardaani 2 marks the directorial debut of Gopi Puthran, who was the writer of the first film. Rani is reprising the role of the fearless and committed Superintendent of Police, Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 2.  In the sequel, Rani will be pitted against a 21-year-old menacing villain and a new face has been launched as the antagonist.
