Suriya starrer Kaappaan is one of the most awaited films in Tamil cinema which is gearing up for release in August. Kaappaan is an action thriller, written and directed by KV Anand. Produced by Lyca Productions, the star cast also includes Mohanlal, Arya, Boman Irani and Sayyeshaa in pivotal roles.

Mollywood actor Mohanlal essays an important role in the film as a Prime Minister. In a recent interview, Director KV Anand has revealed that Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan was the initial choice for Mohanlal’s role in the film. However due to non-avaiability of Big B’s dates, he had approached Mohanlal as he seemed to fit the bill perfectly. Interestingly KV Anand began his career as a cinematographer with Mohanlal’s film Thenmavin Kombath followed by Minnaram. Heaping praises on  Mohanlal's histrionic skills, the director has said that the Lucifer actor has portrayed such a powerful role with ease and has never been conscious of the camera while acting.

Suriya essays the role of a first rank SPG (Special Protection Group) officer in the film. The director has also said that all the characters in Kaappaan are two-faced. Harris Jayaraj has scored the music.
