Weekly Earworm – Week7 – 30/06/2019

Pa Ranjith strikes it once again, this time with the hard hitting sarcastic single kallamouni.

NerkondaPaarvai (Tamil): Yuvan Shankar Raja: Vaanil Irul [Listen Here]: Vaanil Irul is the unlikeliest Ajith starrer movie's single track where the brooding tune is perfectly sketched by Dhee's affecting vocals. Yuvan Shankar Raja gets ample support from Naveen's woodwinds to stretch the gloomy soundscape throughout the song.

7UP Madras gig Season 2 - AR Rahman : Sago [Listen Here]: The much-expected debut by AR Ameen for the season 2 and Rahman as expected delivered the techno-laden track on the lines of his Endhiran soundtrack. The peppy rhythm and the singing works to an extent amidst the grand background arrangements despite the tune has nothing much to offer.

Dear Comrade (Tamil): Justin Prabhakaran: Canteen [Listen Here]: The conversational lyrics composed and written by Justin Prabhakaran easily reminds the Tasakku Tasakku from Vikram vedha largely due to setting and the initial portions of the tune. Though the track has nothing extraordinary, under three minutes song is enjoyable till it lasts in the vocals of another composer Nivas K Prasanna.

Therukural: OFRO: Kallamouni [Listen Here]: Pa Ranjith production single is a brave one as always and is a sarcastic attempt about the people who just protest for the sake of trend which one can come across so frequently in TamilNadu's current political scenario. Arivu and OFRO's lyrics deserves a strong applause and they brilliantly portrayed the big picture in a single song. The Kendrick Lamar'esque tune and the rap is also catchy and enjoyable one.

Mallesham (Telugu): Mark K Robin: Naaku Nuvvani [Listen Here]: Naaku Nuvvani's tune has the old world charm attached to it and the jingle' ish tune is handled brilliantly by Ramya Behara adequately backed by Sri Krishna. Oramod Umapathi's flute solos deserve special mention and the tune turns more addictive with the charanam portions. The song's slower version Kotha Kothaga also works beautifully where the magic in the tune come out more effectively with the minimal orchestration.

Pick of the week: Kallamouni, Naaku Nuvvani, Vaanil Irul
