Yuvan's Thanga Meengal Music Review

by Vaishnavi Krishnan

‘Thanga Meengal', is the second film directed by Ram of ‘Katradu Thamizh’ Fame. Besides directing the movie he has also donned the lead role opposite debutante Sadhana. He has joined hands once again with Yuvan Shankar Raja and Na. Muthukumar. The movie is produced by Gautham menon and is released under the Photon Kathaas  Banner. As GVM is generally acclaimed for his out-of-the-box ideas, the audio release of the movie speaks out for itself. All the songs tuned by Yuvan are highly soothing and melodious. The songs are expected to get better along with picturization as they have would be showcasing the bond between a father and a daughter. The tracklist consists of 4 songs, each of which is uniquely composed to foot-tapping rhythm.

 Aanandha Yazhai  (Singer: Sreeram Parthasarathy)

The song unfolds to describe the unfathomable love between a father and daughter. The slick monotones and the soothing tune make us want to hit the play button again and again. It has also given the singer a great opportunity to showcase his expressive voice.

First Last (Singers: Baby Sadhana, Baby Sanjana & Choir)

It is an interesting and funny composition showcasing school life and its many faces. It is highly realistic and humorous.  A light-hearted aura hangs throughout the song while Baby Sadhana and Sanjana have done great justice to it. The chorus part hits the ramp on a striking note and makes us have nostalgic memories about our school life. The song feels lengthier on the downside as the one-liners keep washing in and out throughout it.

Nadhi Vellam (Singer: Rahul Nambhiyar)

It is a solo number that sets apart a class of its own as it talks about the pain of separation between a father and daughter. It has the very tune that brings out the essence of the film in more than one way and the resounding waves makes us rant deep inside about lost relations in the past. The lyricist has done an amicable job as the song manages to keep running inside our veins even after the foot-notes end.

Yaarukkum Thozhan Illai (Singer: Alphonse Joseph)

It is a blend of plain notes with a high-pitched voice. It has a distinctive tune and is an stand-out in the album. The lyricist has coined lyrics in such a manner that it has elevated the quality in an ethnic manner.

Verdict : Yuvan Shankar raja has done justice to the music and this will be a stand-out album. He has also given ample opportunity for innovative picturization and cuts. The music is soul-stirring and has definitely managed to portray dad-daughter relationship in a poetic way.

Music Rating: 6.5 / 10
