Movies This Week: Except Alpha, an average show

With some of the Independence day releases still raking moolah at the Box-office, the new releases this week haven't had much to offer in terms of quality entertainment. A look into the films this time around:

Alpha (English)

This week's highest attention grabber, Alpha stands apart for its unusual mix of a child-like tale with high octane visuals. Set in the ice-age the film retraces the story of how the last man standing befriended a wild wold thus leading to the evolution of the bond between humans and dogs.

Kalari

Kalari starring Krisha is a roller-coaster ride of melodrama and is about a man suffering agrophobia setting out to find the culprita behind his sister's death. The movie is not off to a good start and has failed to create an impression with most of the viewers.

Echcharikkai

As mentioned in our review, echcharikkai is between a thriller and a fantasy drama and comes across as an engaging watch. This Sarjun director movie is unlike his short-films Laskmi and Maa and can be watched once.

Merku Thodarchi Mazhai

Unlike the commercial releases this week, Merku Thodarchi Mazhai is a realistic film about the lives of people living modestly in Western Ghats. The movie is recommedes for a watch, if you are in for an artistic 2 hours.

Lakshmi

Again a movie worth watching once, Lakshmi by A.L. Vijay is easy, fun and predictable (full review here). While dance forms the basis of the film, the story focusses on a young girl trying to make it big in the field with a reluctant mother and a new found trustee.

Happy Phir Bhaag Jayegi (Hindi)

While the prequel of the movie dealt with a cross-border switch, Happy Phir Bhaag Jayegi is about identitiy switch. The movie though a complete comic caper, has opened to only mixed responses.

Others

Other movies that are available for watching in theares this week are Neevevaro starring Aadhi Pinisetty (Telugu) and Genius starring Nawazuddin Siddique (Hindi)
