The smoking poster controversy related to Vijay's upcoming film Sarkar, was recently addressed by Vijay Sethupathi in an interview to a Tamil news channel and the Vikram Vedha actor seemed more than defensive for his industry senior, Vijay. Not only did he compare the Thalapathy actor's smoking in films to that of Vijay's box-office rival Ajith's, but Vijay Sethupathi also went the extra mile to label the protestors as 'pubblicity seekers'. "Cigarette smoking is not as exaggerated today on-screen, as much as it was in the 80's. My father used to smoke cigarettes. I didn't get influenced by him. I wasn't influenced either when I saw Ajith smoking in movies. (But) I too have the habit of smoking. Is actor Vijay the only one who smokes cigarettes in movies? Don't other actors smoke as well?By protesting against this (cigarette smoking in the film), everyone is vying for publicity. Everyone knows that smoking is injurious to health. Those who want to end this problem must voice against the cigarette company."
Sarkar directed by A.R. Murugadoss and produced by Sun Pictures will hit theatre screens for Diwali this year, while Vijay Sethupathi awaits the release of Junga, Seethakathi, Chekka Chivantha Vaanam and 96 this year.
