Superstar Rajinkanth’s Kaala is gearing up for worldwide release on June 7. The film however will not be releasing in Karnataka citing Superstar Rajinikanth's statement on Cauvery Water Dispute. The makers have moved Karnataka High Court seeking release of the film in the state.

Rajinikanth-starrer Kaala producer K Dhanush and wife Aishwarya Dhanush have filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking directions to the state government and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) from preventing the release, distribution and exhibition of the film in the State. KFCC had earlier said in a statement that the film will not be allowed to be screened or distributed in the state.

The petitioners have further stated that they have spent Rs 140 crore on making the film and are expecting a gross revenue of to Rs 15-20 crore from the screenings in Karnataka.

The petitioners state that 'Kaala' has been issued a certification under Section 5B of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, by the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC). After receiving such a certificate, it is the fundamental right of the petitioner under Article 19(1) of the Constitution to exhibit the film.

The petitioners also have sought directions to the police authorities to provide necessary security at theatres and for movie goers, directors, producers, and cast associated with Kaala in the State. The petition is likely to come up for hearing today. (Also Read: Prakash Raj’s statement on Kaala ban in Karnataka)
