KriArj Entertainment & its legal battle with Bollywood!

If you've watched Hindi movies, its impossible to have missed the name KriArj Entertainment for it has produced commercially successful movies like Rustom (2016), Toilet: EK Prem Katha (2017) and Padman (2018) among other films. The banner was founded by Prerna Arora who also operates pretty much as the face of the production house and her partner Arjun N Kapoor. Despite holding a successful streak with Akshay Kumar, the producers have found themselves in the news for all the wrong reasons of-late.

It all started when John Abraham got into a very public feud with Prerna for his upcoming film Paramanu, until it was cleared by the courts on May 10 that John could release the film sans KriArj Entertainment. The feud was over non-payment of dues to John's JA Entertainment which is now releasing the film solo on May 25, 2018.

This was followed by director Abhishek Kapoor getting into a feud with KriArj Entertainment for taking over his long-in-the-works film Kedarnath without the Prerna's production banner. The same remuneration and non-payment of dues played spoil-sport here and the controversy ended with both Guy in the Sky (Abhiskek Kapoor's production house) and Kriarj Entertainment selling their rights to Ronnie Screwvala who is now the sole producer of Kedarnath. Now, KriArj Entertainment is facing legal issues over two other films of theirs - the Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor starrer Batti Gul Meter Chalu and the Aishwarya Rai, Anil Kapoor starrer Fanne Khan.

According to reports, Nishant Pitti, the chief funder of both these films has approached the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) against KriArj, Bhushan Kumar of T Series (co-producer of Batti) and director of the film Shree Narayan Singh for he claims to have paid Rs. 14 crore to Prerna and the team going ahead with the shooting without notice to him. Earlier there were reports of crew members of Fanne Khan (also co-produced by T-Series) not shooting due to non-payment of remuneration, though Fanne Khan's other producer Raykesh Om Prakash Mehra claimed no delay from his end.

Added to this, a recent court hearing for KriArj went in favour of Gothic Entertainment who the sued KriArj for a pending payment of  Rs 18.32 Cr with respect to the films Padman and Paramanu. The court has ordered Prerna, her mother and her partner Arjun to deposit Rs 5 crore in court within three weeks. With so many issues cropping up over non-payment of dues, KriArj seems deep in trouble, both in terms of financial management and reputation.
