Although TFPC has withdrawn its strike and Tamil movies have started to hit the silver screen, they are yet to make a big impact at the Chennai box office. Avengers: Infinity War took a gargantuan opening last weekend and it had grossed around ₹2.48 crore in Chennai. Interestingly, this is 2018's biggest opening in the city. Sai Pallavi's debut Tamil film Diya grossed around ₹48 lakh, while Vikram Prabhu's bad run of form continued with Pakka too and the movie grossed around ₹30 lakh in Chennai.

Karthik Subbaraj's silent thriller Mercury lost the momentum in its second weekend in Chennai, while Mahesh Babu's Bharat Ane Nenu continued to attract the audience, becoming a Super Hit in the city.

Gautham Karthik's adult entertainer Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu, Allu Arjun's Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India and a few lesser known Tamil films will be hitting the screens this weekend.
