Notorious Piracy website Tamilrockers, that has been functioning as a one-stop shop for pirated versions of all new South Indian Film releases has come under a major scanner in the form of an arrest. Reportedly, Villupuram based Karthi who is known to be the main administrator of Tamilrockers, was arrested in Kerala along with two of his counterparts Prabhu and Suresh for uploading the Malayalam film Pulimurugan through their website that was being hosted from 19 domains including .in, .ac, .me, .ro and .co. It has also come to light that Karthi who is said to be the owner of Tamilrockers at this point has earned more than Rs. 1 crore last year and they were traced using an email from an ad agency that hosted ads on their website.
This major bust also included the arrest of Tirunelveli natives Johnson and Jagan who were arrested for hosting the piracy website DVD Rockers and uploading the Malayalam film Ramleela. They are said to have made Rs. 75 lakh last year through this business. All five accused have been booked under various sections of the Copyright Act and IT Act, and have been remanded to judicial custody. The Kerala police say that they expect more people to be involved in the business and hope to bring them to light in further investigations.
