Veteran actor Sridevi, who had an illustrious career spanning over four decades, passed away.  Sridevi died on Saturday evening in Dubai following a cardiac arrest. The 54-year-old had gone to Dubai to attend a family wedding.

Sridevi had fainted in the bathroom of the Jumeirah Emirates Towers, where she was staying with her family. A medical team had failed to revive her and she was declared dead at a hospital.

 

The routine forensic procedures are over and as soon as the report is released, her body will be flown back to India on a private jet.

 
In a statement last evening, the family said the actor's body will arrive in Mumbai today. The last rites are expected to be held today.

Sridevi started her career as a child artist in Thunaivan at the age of four, and continued to act as a child artist in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films.

Sridevi established herself as one of the leading actresses of Tamil and Telugu cinema, with roles such as 16 Vayathinile, Sigappu Rojakkal, Varumayin Niram Sivappu, Meendum Kokila, Premabhishekam, Moondram Pirai. Sridevi ruled Bollywood in the late 1980s as the numero uno female star. Sridevi's iconic films in Hindi include Mr India, Nagina, Sadma, Chaalbaaz, Chandni among many others. The Padma Shri recipient was last seen in "Mom" in 2017.

 

Actor Sridevi's death has shocked the Indian film industry, condolences pour in from across the world for the family. Kollywood celebrities paid tribute to the legendary actress on their social media accounts:
