Joining the list of Indian awardees like Amitabh Bachchan, A R Rahman, Shabana Azmi, Ravi Shankar and others, Bollywood's 'Baadshah' Shahrukh Khan received his first Crystal Award at the 24th Annual Crystal Awards ceremony that celebrates the achievements of artists who have shown exemplary commitment to improving the state of the world. Shahrukh was awarded alongside two of the most popular international artistes, Sir Elton John - Britain's best selling popular musician (best known for Lion King's music) and Cate Blanchett, the Australia-bred Hollywood actress.
"I am genuinely and deeply grateful for this honour and it is indeed a privilege to be in the company of two phenomenal and extraordinary human beings and talent - Cate Blanchette and Sir Elton John. She is of course the lady who commands the wind and you sir command the song of a billion hearts, including mine..So, I am really really touched that I have been chosen between these two", said the actor in his speech post receiving the award.
King khan also did not forget to mention the women of his family in his speech and said, "I want to thank my sister (Shehnaz Lalarukh Khan), wife (Gauri) and my little daughter (Suhana) for bringing me up well and teaching me the value of requesting, sometimes imploring and sometimes even begging a yes from a women instead of forcing on her,"
Shah Rukh Khan was awarded for his social initiative via Meer Foundation, an organisation that works extensively towards empowering women subjected to acid attack.
