Gopi Sunder's Pulimurugan, A.R. Rahman's proteges Qutub-E-Kripa : Indian contenders of Oscar 2018 Best Original Score
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the list of 141 films that are contending for the Best Original Score award at the 2018 Oscars and the only two Indian contenders of this list include A.R. Rahman's proteges Qutub-E-Kripa and musician Gopi Sunder, who scored for Mohanlal starrer Pulimurugan. While the former who hail from AR Rahman’s music school - the KM Music Conservatory made it for Lake of Fire, the latter's songs Kaadanayum Kaalchilambe and Maanathe Maarikurumbe that featured in Pulimurugan have made it to the qualifiers list.

These Indian contenders have featured alongside some international popular composers like Hans Zimmer (Dunkirk, Blade Runner 2049, The Boss Baby), John Williams (The Post, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Rupert Gregson-Williams (Wonder Woman), Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me 3) among others. The nomination ballots go out on January 5, 2018 with information about all the eligible contenders. The final top 5 Oscar nominees for Best Original Score, 2018 will then be announced on January 23, 2018 after the voting by those in the Academy’s music branch.
