Mersal beats Vivegam for a new Day 1 record!

As expected, Mersal has started setting new opening records. In Chennai city the film has opened with 1.52 CR which is a new Day 1 record by far, beating Vivegam which did 1.21 CR recently on its first day. Theri was Vijay's previous best opener; now Mersal is setting the bar really high. We have to see how much the TN gross of the film is.

It must be noted that the ticket prices have been uniformly officially increased in almost all theaters across the state. It must also be said that multiplexes, Inox and PVR, aren't in operation in Chennai city, as a protest against double taxation in the state. These are the main changes when comparing Vivegam and Mersal's opening in the city.

Whatever said, it's a Blockbuster opening for this Thalapathy Vijay starrer where he plays triple roles.
