Don't Breathe Review - It hardly lets you to!!!

Don't Breathe is exactly that type of a film that bridges the gap between a thriller and horror/slasher flick. Fede Alvarez employs techniques that we are accustomed to but delivers the film with such tension that this is easily one of the better rewarding films for those who seek popcorn entertainment.

Plot:

Three friends who make a living by breaking into houses face their biggest nemesis in the unlikeliest of forms when they are hunted by a visually challenged war veteran.

What makes the film work is that despite an unlikely scenario most of what happens on screen looks believable. The hunter becoming the hunted is not entirely novel but this is a film where until halfway you really do not take sides and yet there is this uneasy feel in your stomach of how things are going to end up. Then there is a revelation to help you pick your side. Well this did look a little contrived but it does work thanks to the pace at which things move that we hardly have time to think or rather should I say 'breathe'. Things also work well because there is some method in the madness. The victims do not really do something foolish to turn corpses but do take careful strides. The film does follow one standard rule of the slasher flicks though. The most irritating guy is the first one to go and then we are left with those whom we do care a bit for.The action choreography is superb with everything happening inside a house and in complete darkness at times.

Bottomline:

Delivering the goods with aplomb, this is one fun/tense ride at the cinemas.
