Top Ten Bollywood Directors of 2015

We saw big films from big directors like Kabir Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Sooraj Badjatia, Rohit Shetty, Sanjay Leela Bhansali but the year 2015 is the year of new film-makers that have brought across freshness with their wonderfully crafted stories. Here are the top ten directors for the year:

Neeraj Ghaywan - Masaan

Neeraj Ghaywan, the debutant director brought us an explored story based on the sides on Ganges in Benaras called Masaan. This film not only won two awards at Cannes, but also the hearts of the people with its very simplistic and poetic storytelling.

Kanu Bahl - Titli

The debutant director Kanu Behl deserves great accolades for his direction, his great detailing, layering of the story and the characterization. He fucks up you entire mind with the film. It grows on you with time, provokes your inner temptations and brings you face to face with your reality. A must watch.

Shoojit Sircar - Piku

After Vicky Donor and Madras Café, Shoojit brought a beautiful, quirky comedy about the relationship between an ageing father and his young daughter, living in a cosmopolitan city, dealing with each other's conflicting ideologies while being fully aware that they are each other's only emotional support.Very subtly, he manages to give across the message and at the same time leaves a smile on your faces.

Anand L Rai - Tanu Weds Manu Returns

Films directed by Anand L Rai are a pleasure to watch as he explores the intricacies of stories based in small cities of north like Kanpur, Benaras, Agra. His detailing and characterization along with some brilliant one-liners are his strength and wonderful to watch.

Sriram Raghavan - Badlapur

Sriram Raghavan is back with a bang after the disastrous Agent Vinod. Though Badlapur is no Ek Hasina Thi but his story-telling and detailing have been incredible. It is not only a revenge saga but a thoughtful take on revenge stories.

Sharat Katariya - Dum Laga Ke Haisha

Another debutant director makes a mark with what might be the sweetest movie of the year Dum Laga Ke Haisha, brilliantly written and performed combined with some wonderful songs and 90’s nostalgia! The detailing, characterization and the feel of the whole movie is fantastic.

Kabir Khan - Bajrangi Bhaijaan

Kabir Khan made a full paisa vasool movie for his audience that not only made money but also made Salman experiment with a new role. What was great to watch is his emphasis on the story and that of different characters and not entirely on Salman.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali - Bajirao Mastani

Bhansali brings to you his most ambitious project Bajirao Mastani which is a cinematic experience that should not be missed out on! From the beautiful sets to the scintillating costumes combining with the amazing cinematography, everything about this film mesmerizes you.

Imtiaz Ali - Tamasha

One should definitely watch Tamasha for the incredible feel Imtiaz Ali brings to you through it. Either you will relate to it or you’ll not. But you do,  Tamasha is one movie which touches the bottom of your heart.

Neeraj Pandey - Baby

Neeraj Pandey is known for his social thrillers like A Wednesday and Special 26, and this year too he brings a fine film which is a very engaging take on counter-terror intelligence. He treats the film well and grips you the whole time you watch the movie.
