Critic Choice:

1.Masaan (MC Rating - 83%)

Winner of two awards at Cannes, Masaan is a story of four people whose lives intersect along the Ganges: a low caste boy hopelessly in love, a daughter ridden with guilt of a sexual encounter ending in a tragedy, a hapless father with fading morality, and a spirited child yearning for a family, long to escape the moral constructs of a small-town. Along with a brilliant screenplay penned down by Varun Grover, it has some amazing performances by Vicky Kaushal, Richa Chaddha and Shweta Tripathi! Credits to the debutant director Neeraj Ghaywan.

2. Titli  (MC Rating - 79%)

Titli stands out in a league of its own.Based in Delhi, the film is about a young boy called Titli (Shashank Arora), who’s brought up in a fierce family of muggers and just wants to escape from his unpleasant world and open a garage of his own. To search a way out amidst all this, he unites with his ‘pseudo’ wife Neelu (Shivani Raghuvanshi) who has similar dreams of defying the family roots and be with her love ‘Prince’. Not only does ‘Titli’ leave quite an impact when it ends but the film really gets to you after you walk out of the theaters. Yes, it grows on you with time, provokes your inner temptations and brings you face to face with your reality. A must watch.

3.Talvar (MC Rating - 73%)

There have been a lot of movies based on the controversial cases in the books of history, but only a few films out of those stand out. One such film is ‘Talvar’, based on Aarushi Murder Case, the most talked case in the country in the recent times and is surely one the top films this year. It involves some magnificent performances, a very honest direction by Meghna Gulzar, but the real hero of the movie is the screenplay penned down by the maestro Vishal Bhardwaj! He makes up for a thrilling narrative with some wonderfully crafted dialogues.

4.Badlapur (MC Rating -72%)

How difficult is it to let go of things? Badlapur asks its audience this very question and the best part is that it doesn’t give you the answer. It gives you an opportunity to judge it for yourself. Badlapur has black, grey but no white! Superb performances by Varun Dhawan, Nawaz and Radhika Apte, combined with some brilliant writing makes it a must watch. A Special mention to the Sachin Jigar for the amazing soundtrack of Badlapur.

5.Dum Laga Ke Haisha (MC Rating - 71%)

Dum Laga Ke Haisha is a story of an overweight young schoolteacher who marries a typically entitled small-town lad who believes he deserves a more attractive wife. How subtly the film deals with small town issues like marriage, stereotypes, patriarchy and societal pressure is a pleasure to watch. It might be the sweetest movie of the year, brilliantly written and performed combined with some wonderful songs and 90’s nostalgia!

6. NH10 (MC Rating - 69%)

NH10 scares the shit out of you when you see the story of a happy couple going out on a Holiday come across an honor killing carried out by a powerful village gangster who later makes the couple run for their lives. The film intelligently takes on the issue of Khap and the brutality it causes and you too wonder about your safety when the film ends. Anushka Sharma did a fantastic job in the film, probably her best till date.
