MovieCrow Box Office Report - September 4 to 6

Vishal's Paayum Puli and Ashok Selvan's Savaale Samaali had hit the screens on September 4. While Paayum Puli received mixed reviews, Savaale Samaali received scathing reviews from the critics. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.

1. Thani Oruvan

Thanks to overwhelming word of mouth, Jayam Ravi's Thani Oruvan was unshakable at the top. Jayam Raja has earned a cult fan following for himself with this pulsating thriller, and Arvind Swamy's charismatic villain act has been getting rave reviews.

2. Paayum Puli

Vishal's Paayum Puli, directed by Suseenthiran, took a good opening due to the fact that actor-director's earlier venture (Pandiya Nadu) was a roaring hit. However, Paayum Puli is nowhere near that league and has been receiving mixed responses from the audience.

3. Savaale Samaali

Ashok Selvan's Savaale Samaali released across limited screens, and did not make a huge impact. Some of the critics have literally written off the movie, due to its uninspiring and tedious screenplay.

Other Movies

SS Rajamouli's Baahubali was still running to packed houses across multiplexes, while Vaalu and VSOP almost completed their runs.

Upcoming week's releases

Director Vishnuvardhan's Yatchan, starring Arya and Kreshna, will be hitting the screens on September 11. Pa. Vijay's horror flick Strawberry will also be releasing on the same day.
