Strictly for the brave hearts.

Director Vetri Maran's non-linear narration and packaging style are unique. Characterization needs special mention as they don't contradict themselves during the course of the movie. Though good in patches, a tighter and focused screenplay could have helped the movie much more. Vetri Maran shows promise but still has a long way to go as far as finesse is concerned. Dhanush has come out good in his efforts, to an extent. The re-recording by G.V.Prakash appropriately emphasizes the emotions required. (more)

Racy and worth a look.

Vetrimaran has been influenced by the classic (Bicycle Thieves), which he has Tamilised and set in a lower middle class Chennai milieu, added Kollywood masala, stylistically shot with video footage, moodily lit interiors, authentic locations, top line performances from the entire cast including the junior artists, music video style songs and picturisations, and knockout action scenes are some of the high-points of this racy entertainer. G.V Prakash's music and background score makes the film peppy. (more)

Realistic and engrossing.

Very rarely we come across realistic portrayals in Tamil cinema. Some filmmakers do deal with various shades of life but more often than not they indulge in diluting the reality in their pursuit to ensure commercial success. Some directors, however, achieved the rare combination of undiluted reality meeting with commercial success. Debutant director Vettrimaran's ‘Polladhavan’ has all potential to become one such attempt. (more)

Deftly handled.

‘Polladhavan’ sag. Writer-director Vetrimaran has slogged over his screenplay and the result shows. Editor V.T.Vijayan's handiwork is an evident plus. A mature looking Dhanush is another great advantage. Divya stars opposite him and is more an adornment in the cast. At times, the gore brings ‘Pudhupettai’ to mind. But unlike it, ‘Polladhavan’ sustains your interest till the end. (more)
