Dotted with the typical Maniratnam touch.

It's dotted with the typical Maniratnam touch, lively and entertaining. Slow take-off and lag in narration make Ayudha Ezhuthu a disappointment for the craftsman's fans who always expect a masterpiece from him. Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran's inimitable style of capturing images on lenses has audience spell-bound. The movie is certainly worth watching, if not for other features, at least for veering off the contemporary theme, which has heroes and heroines romancing around trees, a couple of tear-jerking scenes and monotonous comedy sequences.(more)

Mani's bold and daring move.

Aayitha Ezhuthu is a bold and daring move by Mani Ratnam to change the staid style of our commercial cinema. Mani has totally neglected his biggest selling point - Song picturisations which are a total let down. Surya has given a finely calibrated performance and is smashing, while Madhavan is terrific, Siddharth is cool. The lovely Meera Jasmine pitches in her career best act. Esha is surprisingly fresh and sparkling while Trisha has only to look attractive and is competent. (more)

Clearly defined characters.

AS LONG as the treatment is fresh and the presentation original, the maker's source of inspiration is immaterial. Every frame of "Aayudha Ezhuthu" bears the Mani Ratnam stamp and that's what matters. The entire approach is positive and hence heartening. A. R. Rahman's songs appeal more on screen because when placed contextually the impact seems enhanced. Re-recording is another excellent highlight. Be it tension or gentle love, the music in the background scores. You enter with expectation and walk out with satisfaction. (more)
