Watch Veyil for its energy.
Director Vasantha Balan has deftly handled the script, making it his own. By maintaining an energetic pace throughout, he ensures the story doesn't become monotonous or conventional, despite the somewhat predictable plot. The stalwart Pasupathy is undoubtedly the star of the film with his poignant portrayal. GV Prakash's music score is commendable for a debut, showing signs of achievements to come. Veyil is a film filled with energy from the word go. It keeps you engaged till the end.(more)

An emotional epic.
The first step towards the victory of this film is the selection of artists for each and every character where the director scores full marks. The Director's crispy and linear narration has aided the editor a lot and has not given him much work. Similarly debutant music composer G V Prakash has rendered life to the film with his music. Cinematographer has done his role perfectly. Thank you Vasantha Balan for a beautiful effort.(more)

A worthwhile venture.
With the story which deals with natural emotions, the screenplay that helps the film glide past without a trace of boredom, the songs so intelligently placed that they take the story forward, the dialogue, the dialect so native to the soil or the folks who look so real, Vasanthabalan astutely packages all these in right proportions and serves them on a platter, for you to watch, admire and be moved. Bright and bold.
Vasanthabalan has chosen to tell a tale of human foibles, frailties and faithfulness. Tales of heart are what make for satisfactory viewing. It surely does in Veyyil. And Vasanthabalan’s cast has given a bravura performance. Bharath is self-contained and understanding. Bhavana is petite and polished. Shriya Reddy is confident. Pasupathy is the nerve center of the film. Vasanthabalan’s success also lies in smartly setting the mood for his method. The ambiance gets across the story as much as the characters do.(more)

A wonderful movie worth watching.
Veyyil is realistic to a point and yet does not fail to entertain. It is a solid movie with a moral. The director has succeeded in bringing out the best from everyone in the movie. G.V.Prakash has scored wonderful tunes. Though the film is highly commendable, it is not free from certain negative aspects. The second half appears to meaner and linger long. A bit of editing of the last part could do wonders for the film.(more)

A good cinema, go and watch it.
Once again Shankar has introduced Vasantha Balan a director who understands the nuances of making a realistic film with well-etched out characters and strong screenplay. This one works and keeps you riveted. Veyil is one straight from the heart. Quite naturally, it is Pasupathy who presides over the show magisterially. Bharath has given a knockout performance. G.V.Prakash is the musical discovery of the year. (more)
