A neat entertainer.
The director deserves praise for extracting good performances from every one in the cast. Nirav Shah's camera is the film's greatest strength. His lighting sets the right tone. Yuvan's pulsating background score and slick editing by Srikar Prasad add to the film's entertainment value. On the downside, the film is more suited for multiplex crowd and city slickers. (more)

Fast paced thriller.
It is a fast paced thriller and cameraman Nirav Shah has done a wonderful job in making you feel not only the action sequences but also the sentimental scenes. Music and re-recording have beautifully gelled with the story, script and scene. (more)

Mayhem without let-up.
Vishnuvardhan's screenplay is a major reason for the crispness of `Pattiyal.' The dialogue with its comic undertones, gallows humour and profound observations lifts the scenes. Even when switching over to flashback mode, Vishnu adopts a subtle yet racy approach. Amply contributing to it is Sreekar Prasad's editing. But on the whole the overdose of gore in `Pattiyal' bothers you. (more)

Go, watch it.
Video footage, moodily-lit authentic locations, intermittent flashes of zippy-zappy editing, top-line performances, digital imaging, knock out action scenes, great music and re-recording are just some of the highlights. Pattiyal has a straightforward plot with an emotional core. On the acting front, Vishnu has extracted astonishingly life-like performance from the lead cast. (more)

Of guns and gangsters.
Vishnuvardhan has come up with a film that will have an appeal across the board. He has also managed to wrench out believable performances from the top four. Nirav Shah's camera is of the highest quality. Yuvan is the right music director for such a movie. The editing, Srikar Prasad's, also provides the film the right momentum.(more)
