Watchable.

Chandramukhi is a remake of P.Vasu's Apathamitra from Kannada with some additional songs, fights and comedy scenes thrown in to further boost the superstar’s image. Rajnikanth films have always been entertainers with a strong messages and the director seems to be weighed down by the needs of the superstar’s fans and the box-office. The comedy scenes between Rajni and Vadivelu are the highlight of Chandramukhi. Vadivelu is at his best as he brings impeccable comic timing to his role. Vidyasagar’s music is hummable (more)

Humdrum Fare.

In fashioning the story to suit Rajini's persona, the soul of the plot seems to have been lost. Rajini belies his age on the screen and performs his antics with enthusiasm. His comic interludes with Vadivelu are the highlight of the movie. On to the flip side, the first casualty is the screenplay where the director seems to be in a dilemma as to give importance to the story or the star. His balancing act is quite precarious and the end result is mishmash. (more)

A certain hit.

Surprisingly, it's Jyotika who dominates the show, not Rajnikanth. Truly, an award-winning performance.Rajnikanth fights like a superstar and talks like one. Vadivelu comes up with a great performance. The music, composed by Vidyasagar, is good. (more)

A neat entertainer.

From start to finish the film moves at jet speed. Even the titles are appealing. P Vasu has given a neat family entertainer, which will also satisfy the superstar’s fans. Vidhyasagar's music is already a hit. No doubt, Chandramukhi, a real 'Chandran' of the movies released on the festive occasion will cast exuberance in the minds of the Tamil movie buffs.(more)

Of and for Rajni.

Chandramukhi has many things going for it and chief among them is - Rajni's undoubted charisma and magical screen presence. Though visibly older now, the actor still has an aura and attraction that is unmatched on Tamil screens. Even if his style and comedy capers have been seen before, they still strike a chord. The duo (Rajni and Vadivelu) brings the house down with their fun and frolic. Jyothika has performed well. Chandramukhi, on the whole, will surely the join the long list of Rajni's super hits.
