Kalakalappu is good fun while it lasts, with the second half better than the first.

The film works as the director is able to raise the bar as several humorous story strands criss-cross across this comedy riot. It reminds you of early Priyadarsan comedies mixed with Crazy Mohan style comedy of errors.(more)

Kalakalappu does have its funny moments, but only a few of them work.

It's almost as though director Sundar C sat down with several promising gags and simply built his story around them. Which wouldn't have been a bad idea, for he had the cast to pull it off. (more)

Kalakalappu, a jolly good time

Santhanam's entry in the second half as Muraimaman and "dubakur rowdy", takes the entertainment level several notches up.(more)

Fun unlimited

Sundar C has shown his value as a director of commercial entertainers earlier and reinforces it again with a bang with 'Kalakalappu', which sure turns out to be a summer treat. Vimal and Shiva have stamped their class and come up with memorable performances but it is Santhanam who is the scene-stealer. Anjali and Oviya have 'meaty' roles too and make full use of it with neat performances.(more)

A wholesome entertainer with its own ups and downs.

The film is a typical Sundar.C entertainer with all the elements required in a commercial flick. But at many point it looks like the director has wrote the script just for the sake of making a film. At many points, the direction in which the story travels is very unclear and confusing while the comedy one-liners mostly end up as flaws.(more)

Served with a lot of fun

Its fun and funny, unpretentious and yet quite nutty! The film has some really clever writing by Badri. While the first-half is slow-paced, Sundar makes it up with jet speed pace, post-interval. A well-packaged masala fare, Masala Caf is worth a watch this summer!(more)
