Fan Service at its Best!
Focuses to celebrate the star to the maximum extent and the target has hit the bulls-eye. Ajith Kumar's stylish show all the way with director Adhik's mass packaging. However originality is a question of concern. (more)

Ajith & Adhik deliver a max masala!
But all said and done, this is an out-and-out Ajith show, and the actor seems to have had great fun revisiting the iconic moments from his previous blockbusters. In his last few films (especially his previous film, Vidaamuyarchi), he seemed to have made a conscious decision to pull back on hero glorification. While such an approach did get him a few admirers among the general audience, fans were largely underwhelmed. And this one seems to be Ajith doing a course correction to keep fans happy.(more)

Ajith's film struggles to balance homage and storytelling
Good Bad Ugly is what you call a fanboy sambavam. If you are an ardent Ajith Kumar fan, this will be a treat for you. But, if you are expecting even a little bit of a story, you'd be in for disappointment. It's all over-the-top. Be it dialogues or the staging. By the time you reach the interval, you'll have realised to go with the flow and not expect much from it. That's when "Good Bad Ugly" turns fun(more)

This Ajith Kumar flick is a stylish, massy fan boy tribute to the star
Good Bad Ugly ultimately plays out as a fanboy tribute from Adhik Ravichandran to Ajith Kumar's packed with style, action, and star power, even if it falls short on storytelling. This one is strictly for the fans who've been waiting to see their vintage hero back on the big screen.(more)

An unhinged Ajith Kumar powers an outlandish and fun 'fanboy sambavam'
Even if the writing is shallow, and most of the performances are functional, Good Bad Ugly is wonderfully engaging, thanks to the editing of Vijay Velukutty whose work is the core of the film's madness. Cinematographer Abhinandan Ramanujam captures the chaos and cacophony with utmost conviction, and showcases Ajith in a completely new light. The technical expertise of the film doesn't really compensate for the gaps in the writing. However, all is forgotten because Adhik and an unhinged Ajith take us on a ride that is always outrageous and outlandish, but never once stops having fun.(more)

Ajith Kumar and Adhik's pop-culture goldmine delivers despite hollowness
That the film's title is a hat-tip to the legendary The Good, the Bad and the Ugly reminds one of the famous line from the Sergio Leone directorial, When You Have To Shoot, Shoot. Dont Talk. Adhik has taken his biggest shot, and it could possibly be the best fan service Tamil cinema has ever seen. Even when it's far from perfect and feels like a brass-knuckle punch to our senses, Good Bad Ugly is loving work of nostalgia.(more)

A fever-dream of homages and hero worship
Good Bad Ugly is not remotely interested in emotional depthuntil it suddenly pretends to be. That's the problem. Father-son scenes meant to evoke pathos fall flat. A moral contrast between a violent husband and a law-abiding wife is introduced, only to become... nothing.(more)
