Slow and Melancholic.
Mysskin has come out with another heart wrenching story. The film works in bits and pieces, as the pace is very slow and not even. The plus point of the film is Ilayaraja’s outstanding melodies and background score, it is soothing and in harmony with the theme of the film. The boy Aswath Ram is impressive in his first outing. On the whole if you are the art house type, Nandalala is worth a look. (more)

For seekers of worthy cinema.
You can't look for pace in such a true-to-life narration as Nandalala. Yet the adventures keep you glued. The wizard of re-recording does it yet again. Ilaiyaraja's background score that meld with the poignant silences are jewels that adorn Nandalala. And what a poetic title! Greet Mysskin and his Nandalala folks! Nandhalala is brilliant.
Ilaiyaraja's genius makes itself known in every frame cresting highs and lows with finesses, right from the gently waving fronds through the credits. It takes a great deal of gumption to avoid commercial overtones, inject the right dose of humour, angst and poignancy, enough to draw you right into the film, but Nandhalala definitely accomplishes that. Its delight lies in the fine nuances, and dissection of human nature. (more)

Not just a film, but an experience.
Mysskin, as an actor, has played his part very well but at times he tends to overact. But the major highlight of the film is Ashwath Ram; his performance lifts the film to next level. Coming to the technical aspect, Ilayaraja's music stands out! It's almost like a character in the film. Cinematographer Mahesh's amazing visuals are another major highlight of the film. The dialogues are realistic and poignant. Mysskin's direction is simple and intense. (more)

Mind-blowing & Marvelous.
A taut screenplay, scintillating shots and above all the flawless background score by Illayaraja sets up the momentum. The complex characters, simple human faces and the funny encounters sustain interest all through. Three cheers to Mysskin not just as a director but as an actor too. He brings out right emotions. The film may be slow, but it is steady and wins the race too.(more)
