Sarath Kumar and Ashok Selvan,s intelligent thriller does not take audience for granted

Por Thozhil, though, has minor flaws. Some of the sequences are quite far-fetched. One needs to look past them to keep ourselves invested in the story. After the director and actors, composer, Jakes Bejoy, elevated the film with his score. His background music and the way he handles silence worked well for the film. Cinematographer Kalaiselvan Sivaji and editor Sreejith Sarangs work aided in making this thriller a smart one.(more)

Debutant Vignesh Raja delivers an engaging buddy cop film

Por Thozhil is an engaging crime thriller that holds your attention throughout, and a huge credit goes to the restrained performances of both Sarath Kumar and Ashok Selvan. When the script is doing all the talking, the two just deliver nothing more than what is demanded. When the film ended with the promise of a sequel, I was happy. Por Thozhil might turn out to be the long-overdue buddy cop crime thriller franchise in Tamil cinema.(more)

Intelligently woven layered psycho thriller

The writing by Alfred Prakash and Vignesh Raja is so intelligent that the cinematography and editing naturally are top notch. The background score by Jakes Bejoy seems too generic and distracting. Applause Entertainment and Shakti Film Factory deserve applause for backing and presenting such a good work to the Tamil audience. Vignesh Raja on debut has come up with an intelligently scripted, layered psycho analysis of a film that will work for not only genre lovers but for the general crowd too. He is most definitely one of the finds of the year and may be the decade too.(more)

Sarath Kumar and Ashok Selvan shoulder a brilliant investigative thriller

Por Thozhil is one of the best thrillers weve had in Tamil in a while. Its an impressive whodunnit with an intriguing plot headlined by brilliant performances from Sarath Kumar and Ashok Selvan. In an integral scene, Sarath points out that motive is more important than evidence and Vignesh Raja has made his motive quite evident; hes here to stay.(more)
