A Definitely Watchable Rural Drama

Crisper narration and a neater flow could have helped the engagement better, yet a decent flick that finds a balance between the commercial formula and the intended caste politics plot, presented as a convincing package.(more)

This nuanced story needed better craftsmanship

Theres a lack of seamless flow with the scenes, and in many instances, it becomes pretty shoddy with choppy edits. On top of that, the background score is painfully generic and melodramatic. There is no innovation but template sounds that just flatly denote the mood of the song instead of complementing itthe kind you see in TV operas. Lastly, Tamil directors are under no compulsion to write romance if they are bad at it. More so, when the whole affair doesnt add any value to the main plotline. Gauthaman goes out of his way to make Dusharas character relevant to the story, but it only impedes the screenplay. The intention here is right, but the execution falters that applies to the whole movie.(more)

Arulnithi's revenge drama is modest but with potential to be more

We get the usual songs that unnecessarily pull us out of the story, the fight sequences that send goons flying, and the preachy dialogues on the adverse effects of social demarcations. The twists dont surprise us either. Were introduced in the beginning about how impalement as a punishment has often been reserved for those committing the worst of sins and how such devices of death, like the cross, have become a symbol of upholding truth and righteousness. Given that its actually also in the name of the film, theres no point guessing how this becomes a MacGuffin to how a vital character meets his end. On the whole, Kazhuvethi Moorkkan has its heart in the right place but succumbs to mediocre writing, and while terrific performances salvage it to be a decent entertainer, the film leaves you wishing for more.(more)

Sound political thriller that lacks novelty.

Kazhuvethi Moorkkan has a potential plotline but was restricted as just another revenge thriller in the end. Despite the flaws, the film has many smart and memorable moments. The director had superbly staged many sequences from the pre-interval to the climax. The crew had executed a handful of thought-provoking frames through neat cinematography.(more)
