Lawrence's formulaic Rudhran fails to impress

There's nothing original in the film except Boomi's backstory and rise as a gangster, which is quite engaging. However, the action sequences between Boomi and Rudhran are lengthy and make us wish for them to end sooner. Raghava Lawrence's film is a pain to your ears and eyes

Raghava Lawrence as Rudhran oversells his performance, especially in those scenes where he tries to be childish and romantic. You end up frowning at his expressions. Priya Bhavani Shankars Ananya is the typical homely girl who is there to hype the hero and take care of him. Sarathkumar as Bhoominathan is a dreaded gangster, along with his friend (Sharath Lohitashwa). Their backstory is the only portion that managed to lure audiences attention for a while.(more)

Rudhran is an excruciating watch that brings nothing new to the table and tries to capitalise on the tropes that had worked for ages, only to fail because of the same reason. How hard could it be to give the audience an enjoyable commercial entertainer? From the looks of it, its very difficult.(more)
